“Schools don’t have to choose between sustainability and cost-savings” — Solar as a Living Laboratory

We’re proud to be featured in pv magazine USA’s recent article, “Solar-powered schools act as living laboratories for learning,” which explores how solar energy is enhancing education across the country.

The piece highlights how Madison Energy Infrastructure (Madison) is helping schools turn solar installations into immersive learning tools. Students nationwide are engaging with clean energy in ways that spark curiosity and amplify solar’s value as both a power source and educational catalyst.

In one vivid example, a fifth-grade STEAM class used solar-powered whirlygigs to explore energy concepts. As Madison’s Meghan Milo explains in the article:

“We were able to point out the solar panels that were powering her school and then show her that it was the same technology as what was used in her whirlygig, just at a different scale.”

The article also underscores the broader impact: solar installations are not only reducing utility costs for schools, but also sparking student interest in STEM careers and environmental stewardship.

“Schools don’t have to choose between sustainability and cost-savings,” Milo adds. “They can have both — and use it to teach.”

We’re excited to see how solar continues to empower the next generation of thinkers and changemakers.
